Area of Qualicum Beach

Located in the Lighthouse Country, a 300 sq km area which includes Deep Bay, Bowser, Qualicum Bay and Horne Lake, sits Qualicum Beach. The town is at the foot of Mt Arrowsmith and on the east coast of Vancouver Island on the Strait of Georgia. It has population of just under 9000 residents and the oldest average population in Canada at 60.9 years. It is a community of young families and retired homeowners.

Lifestyle and Recreation in Qualicum

Qualicum Beach is a warm – summer Mediterranean climate with cool, wet winters. It has the longest freeze free period in Canada at 180 days which is favorable for agriculture. 80% - 85% of the precipitation is between October and April. There is all types of outdoor activities to keep residents busy including: fishing, hiking, golfing, kayaking or simply enjoying the natural beauty of the ocean and the forests, streams, rivers and lakes in the mildest climate in Canada.

The community is served by a ferry to Lasqueti Island, buses, air (http://www.kdair.com/ ), and both the inland and coastal Highway 19 and 19A.

History of Qualicum Beach

Qualicum means “where the dog salmon run”. It was established as a village in 1943 and as a town in 1983. The first settlers arrived in the 1880s. The golf course and the hotel were built in 1913. Today, Qualicum Beach is constantly growing as it is a favorite retirement and golfing community. 

Real Estate in Qualicum

A high percentage of homes in Qualicum Beach are single family dwellings at 81%. Condos in walk up buildings are 8%, semi-detached and row houses at 4% each with moveable dwellings, duplexes and alternative buildings making up the remainder. Ownership is at 90% with only 10% as rentals.
