Comox

Area

Comox is a town of 15,000 people that occupies the SE portion of the Comox peninsula on the Georgia Strait. The local name was K’omoks, the First Nation word for plentiful. The town has grown through the years with the Royal Canadian Air Force base, tourism , lumber and fishing industries and now service industry careers.

Amenities and Recreation

Comox has many festivals throughout the year including the BC Seafood festival, Filberg Festival and Nautical Days. There is a strong community of artists, musicians and actors. The exceptional backdrop of the ocean, mountains and forests make this an incredible place to live. The community is surrounded by physical activities and it is easy to find a way to enjoy everything from Mt. Washington, to fishing, cycling, swimming and of course, hitting the links.

Comox has many amenities and what is not in Comox is easily obtained in Courtenay. The climate is mild and is often compared to the Mediterranean. Snow in other parts of the valley means rain in Comox. If you like a slower pace in an urban / rural setting, with all the amenities, great weather and one of the lowest crime rates in the country, Comox is for you.

Comox has a wide range of styles, ages and levels of housing. Though there is no high rise apartments, 4 storey condos are common at 11% of the market. Single family detached houses dominate the market at 69% with both semi-detached and row housing at 8%, mobiles at 4% and duplexes at 1% of the market. Owners occupy 81% of the homes leaving 19% to rentals.
